Chromite Ore
Chromite Ore

Chromite is a mineral that is an iron chromium oxide. It has a chemical formula of FeCr2O4. It is an oxide mineral belonging to the spinel group. The element magnesium can substitute for iron in variable amounts as it forms a solid solution with magnesiochromite (MgCr2O4).Chromite today is mined particularly to make stainless steel through the production of ferrochrome (FeCr), which is an iron-chromium alloy.Chromite is iron-black in color with a metallic luster, a dark brown streak and hardness on the Mohs scale of 5.5.

Pakistan is rich with overwhelming deposits of high quality chromium ore in areas of Muslim bagh Baluchistan Province and Besham, Bajaur, Shangla and Malakand areas of KPK Province. Pakistan’s chromium quality is considered to be amongst the best in the world due to ore size and its Cr:Fe ratio. We are extracting and procuring from the mines in Muslim bagh, Khanozai areas of Baluchistan and have capacity to export upto 10,000 mt per month.

Applications

Chrome ore is one of the most useful mineral due to its usage in production of metallic chromium, used as an alloying ingredient in stainless and tool steels. Chromite is also used as refractory material due to its high heat stability.
