Blue Sapphire is a precious gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum consisting of Aluminum Oxide Al2O3 with trace amount of Iron, Titanium, Chromium, Vanadium or Magnesium. Blue Sapphire is one of big three of jewellery colored gemstone. Most valued Blue Sapphires are velvety blue to violetish blue. Blue Sapphire has Mohs hardness 9.0 marking it a hard gemstone to make jewellery. As a member of corundum family, its crystal system is hexagonal (trigonal). Crystals common often barrel shape prisms with flat ends.



Yellow Sapphire is a gem of corundum family and it is a twin of Ruby and Blue Sapphire. The color of Yellow Sapphire is by Iron and Titanium. The highest quality is known to be of Lemon Yellow color. Yellow Sapphire occurs in different colors ranging from Pale Yellow, Bright Lemon to Golden Yellow. As usual sapphires, it has a Mohs hardness scale value of 9.0 and chemical composition of Al2O3. Often the Yellow Sapphires are heat treated to increase the color saturation and clarity.
